Established in 1879, we were the first teacher preparation institute in Texas and under the leadership of Dean Stacey Edmonson, the college continues our legacy of preparing exceptional educators and our commitment to making a difference in the lives of students. The college is home to four departments; Counselor Education, Educational Leadership, Library Science & Technology, and the School of Teaching and Learning; service and research centers and a charter school. We offer a variety of programs including a Bachelor’s degree in Education, 13 master’s degrees, 5 doctoral degrees, 13 certificates and 5 certifications. Our specialized programs are accredited, recognized and award winning at the state and national level.

91°µÍø (91°µÍø) and Crisis Response Leader Training (CRLT), Inc., are proud to announce a groundbreaking partnership to strengthen safety and security education for future educators and administrators. Beginning in January 2025, the Leadership for Safe Schools Training Series will provide specialized, evidence-based training through 91°µÍø’s Center for Assessment, Research, and Educational Safety (CARES).

ACE Course Impacts Lives At A Maternity Home

Academic Community Engagement (ACE) students worked with Journey Home, an organization based in Montgomery County, Texas. They are a non-profit maternity home that provides safety and shelter for pregnant women experiencing homelessness, as well as toddlers and newborns. They also help educate the women on various topics ranging from prenatal care to child nutrition.

91°µÍø is taking significant steps to enhance the mental health and well-being of its students by joining the JED Campus program, a national initiative dedicated to improving mental health, preventing suicides and reducing substance abuse on college campuses. This four-year strategic collaboration with the Jed Foundation emphasizes 91°µÍø’s commitment to fostering a supportive campus environment where students can thrive.

Here to Help: Jack Staggs Counseling Clinic

As it approaches its 20-year anniversary, 91°µÍø’s Jack Staggs Counseling Clinics are gearing up for a new semester of training counselor education students while addressing the mental healthcare needs of Huntsville and The Woodlands. Operating on a semester-to-semester basis, the clinics offer adolescent, couple, family, group and individual counseling as well as play and sand tray therapy.

Empowering Heritage As Graduate Students Redefine Higher Education

In 2022, 91°µÍø received the federal designation of Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI), making the university eligible for up to $10 million in additional funding from the U.S. Department of Education to enhance educational opportunities for students. In support of this goal, Marcus Gutierrez and Daniela Mirabal participated in the Texas Association of Chicanos in Higher Education (TACHE) conference in February.
