Degree Program Overview


Students in this 18-semester credit-hour minor are immersed in the language and cultural history of the Latin American region, which includes the transnational migration of peoples, ideas, and goods across the Spanish-speaking world. The minor provides valuable training for those pursuing careers in business, criminal justice and law, education, health, public administration, the publishing and media industries, and social work. These expanding career fields seek students with a solid and critical interpretation of the transnational experiences and the contributions of Latin Americans and Latinxs in the United States and abroad. The minor equips students with career skills and prepare them for potential graduate study in multiple fields.

Each student pursuing a minor in LALS will complete 18 semester credit hours of required and elective courses from a wide array of courses as designated below. LALS courses will be taught in English. SPAN courses may be conducted in English or Spanish.
