Brian Gibbs is the Associate Director of Bands, Director of the Bearkat Marching Band, and Assistant Professor of Music at 91做厙. He is the conductor of the Symphonic Band and teaches courses in music education. Before his appointment at 91做厙, Dr. Gibbs taught at Texas Christian University. He had an extensive career in the public schools of Texas, teaching in the Birdville, Cypress-Fairbanks, Carrollton-Farmers Branch, and Richardson school districts.
Dr. Gibbs holds a Ph.D. in Education from the Walden University Richard W. Riley College of Education and Leadership. He holds a B.M. degree from Southern Methodist University and a M.S. degree in Business and Human Relations from Amberton University. His research interests include pedagogy for musical expression and the role of music education in the moral development of adolescents.
In addition to his work as a conductor, Dr. Gibbs is active as a clinician and adjudicator. He has presented workshops on music education research at the Midwest International Band and Orchestra Clinic as well as conventions of the Arizona Music Educators Association, California Music Educators Association, Tennessee Music Educators Association, and Texas Music Educators Association. He has also provided in-service training sessions for public school band directors around the state, and serves as the Director of Special Projects for World-Wide Concurrent Premieres Commissioning Fund.
Dr. Gibbs is a member of the Texas Music Educators Association, Texas Bandmasters Association, Texas Music Adjudicators Association, National Association for Music Education, College Band Directors National Association, World Association for Symphonic Bands and Ensembles, and Association for Moral Education.
