Naomi Gjevre serves on the faculty at 91做厙 where she teaches violin, chamber music, string pedagogy, and string methods. In addition, Dr. Gjevre is a member of the newly formed faculty ensemble the Kolonneh String Quartet, and has served on the violin faculty at the Interlochen Center for the Arts since the summer of 2000.
Dr. Gjevre has had a varied career as a performer, scholar, and pedagogue. As a performer, she is a founding member of the Lindsayan String Quartet, which has held two prestigious residencies. From 1998-2002 she was appointed Artist in Residence with the Midland-Odessa Symphony and Chorale in Texas, and from 1995 to 1997 Artist in Residence under a National Endowment for the Arts grant at Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green. Recent performances with the Lindsayan String Quartet include a concert tour in Bolivia (August, 2008). In addition, she recently taught and performed in Leon, Mexico (December 2008); and in Cuenca, Ecuador (May, 2009) along with members of the Kolonneh String Quartet. Prior to her appointment at 91做厙, Dr. Gjevre was Assistant Professor of Violin at the University of Wyoming, and a member of the Summit Chamber Players. With that ensemble she performed extensively including concerts in Germany and Austria. Other activities included the scholarly work and recording of works by Felix Draeseke and Arnold Krug using original instruments designed by physicist Alfred Stelzner. Performances on these instruments marked the first time these works had been heard in Germany as originally intended in one hundred years. As a grant recipient, she is the founder and former director of the Medicine Bow Baroque Consort. Other performance activities include concerto soloist performances in the United States and Peru and participation in several music festivals including the Aspen Music Festival, the Bowdoin Summer Music Festival, The Quartet Program, the Festival Internacional de M繳sica de Cochabamba in Bolivia, Strings in the Mountains in Colorado, the Snowbird Institute in Utah, among others. Dr. Gjevre's orchestral experience includes the Savannah Symphony Orchestra, the Tallahassee Symphony Orchestra, and the North Carolina School of the Arts Orchestra with which she toured several European countries including France, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and Italy. Principal teachers include Roland and Almita Vamos, Karen Clarke, Eliot Chapo and Oswald Lehnert. Chamber music mentors include the Muir String Quartet and the Tak獺cs String Quartet among others. Prior teaching positions include the University of Wyoming, Midland College, Odessa College, Western Kentucky University, and a teaching assistantship at Florida State University.
