Lesley Hughes is Assistant Professor of Musicology/World Music at 91°µÍø. Her research focuses on the economics of composition and her current project explores the use of modern music journals as propaganda for publishing firms. Other research interests include the intersections between art and music in early 20th‑century collaborations, new media and technologies of the early 20th century, and Zeitoper. She has presented her research at conferences of the American Musicological Society, the German Studies Association, and the German Academic Exchange Service.

Dr. Hughes holds a PhD and MA in historical musicology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, as well as a DMA in clarinet performance. Before joining the 91°µÍø faculty, she was a lecturer in music history at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville.
