Second Annual SHACS Future Tech Conference Coming Soon

In a fast-paced world, the technology that surrounds us is constantly changing.  For those who are looking to learn about these changes, the Second Annual Sam Houston Association of Computer Scientists Future Tech Conference might present the perfect opportunity.

The conference will be held April 10-11 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. in the Lowman Student Center Ballroom.  Those who attend will have the opportunity to observe faculty research and company presentations about new technology.

“We will have many presentations about science, security and edutainment,” said Drew Carson, conference chair. “Edutainment is the combination of education and entertainment, and it’s prevalent in the world of technology right now.”

An informative panel about the future of cyber security will feature representatives from the FBI.  The conference also will feature presentations about information security, transportation, education technology and brainwave technology, among other topics prevalent in today’s exceedingly digitalized world.

The SHACS Future Tech Conference also boasts four keynote presentations, one of which is to be delivered by former Grateful Dead lyricist John Perry Barlow.

Barlow, a former Wyoming rancher, was the first to apply the term cyberspace to the “place” it presently describes.  He has written for a variety of publications, including the Communications of the ACM, The New York Times, and Time magazine.

Barlow works actively with several consulting groups, including Diamond Technology Partners, Vanguard, and Global Business Network.  He writes, speaks and consults on a broad variety of subjects, particularly digital economy.

“Our goal is to promote active learning in all things technology within our community,” said Carson.  “As individuals outside of 91做厙 attend, present, and publish their research at our conference, we will continue to bring attention to the 91做厙 campus and our computer science department.

Attendance registration for the conference is currently open.  Those interested in attending may register and pay at .  Admission is $50 for students and $125 for the public.
