Burnout Resistance Resources
Bearkats Overcoming Burnout
Burnout at work happens, and it happens at our university. But how do we acknowledge, avoid, and overcome it on our campus?
Dr. Aneika Simmons, in association with her Faculty Administrative Fellowship with the Office of the Provost, has conducted research about burnout at 91°µÍø. Thus far, that research has culminated into Building a Burnout Resistant Campus Day on November 12, 2021, Building a Burnout Resistant Campus Workshop - Next Steps on November 10, 2022, as well as a Building a Burnout Resistant Camp-Us Day on March 31, 2023.
In 2022, Dr. Simmons joined with colleagues Dean Edmonson and Director Berry to discuss interpersonal dynamics, team leadership and membership, challenges as professors, instructors, and staff as well as mental and physical well-being. This interactive workshop provided an opportunity for faculty and staff to continue to learn about how to mitigate and overcome stress and burnout
In the spring of 2023, Dr. Simmons was joined by Dr. Lane Aiena, from Huntsville Family Medicine, LLP, as our keynote speaker, as well as Lara Patterson, our Student Affairs Specialist, to discuss the Spirit of Adventure and Building Resiliency. In addition, other leadership from the Office of the Provost participated in and supported the occasion as they have with the other related campus-wide efforts.

Faculty Administrative Fellowship Program
The Faculty Administrative Fellowship Program, within the Office of the Provost, provides an opportunity for tenured faculty members who are interested in enhancing their university leadership skills to increase awareness of the operational capacities of Academic Affairs and to assist the Office of the Provost with current or emerging issues that impact the University. The Building a Burnout Resistant Campus Day is a result of Dr. Aneika Simmons’s research and efforts surrounding her 2021 fellowship.
