Police Officer
University Police Officers are licensed Peace Officers as defined under the laws of the State of Texas and thereby have the authority as peace officers. Their primary jurisdiction, under H.B.391, includes all counties in which property is owned, leased, rented, or otherwise under the control of 91做厙.
Requirements. Applicants for the position of Police Officer I or II are required to have completed a basic police officer course (BPOC) as required by Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE), or be enrolled in accredited TCOLE Academy at time of application. No experience is required. A combination of education, experience, and training that would produce the required knowledge and abilities.
Duties. University Police Officers patrol assigned areas of the campus either on foot, automobile, or bicycle. They advise, provide directions, and give information to the general public. Officers respond to and handle emergency and non-emergency calls involving a wide variety of situations. They also enforce state laws, and city or county ordinances where applicable. Police Officers make arrests with and without warrants. They investigate complaints from students, faculty, staff, and general public, as well as make preliminary investigations of crimes. Also, officers complete necessary reports and records about incidents reported. As part of their regular duties they may also be called upon to collect, preserve, maintain chain of custody of evidence, testify in courts and perform periodic inspections and/or review work quality and new techniques. Location. We are currently serving Huntsville - Main Campus, The Woodlands Campus, and the Conroe - College of Osteopathic Medicine Campus.
Telecommunications Operator
The University Police Department staffs the dispatch office 24 hours a day, every day of the year, including weekends and holidays. The responsibilities of Telecommunications Operators include acting as the link between the public and the police, accurately relaying information, answering calls for service via radio, telephone, emergency lines, alarm panels, and through person to person contact, providing general campus directions and information to visitors; as well as summoning emergency maintenance, fire and ambulance services, making inquires into the Texas and National Law Enforcement Telecommunications System (TLETS and NLETS) and the University Police Department's Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system.
