Dr. Gholdy Muhammad

Dr.  Gholnecsar (Gholdy) Muhammad is the author of several publications, including her 2020 book that is driving the theme of our conference: Cultivating Genius: An Equity Framework for Culturally and Historically Responsive Literacy. Dr. Muhammad's career began as a middle school teacher, and now she is an Associate Professor at Georgia State University and director of the Urban Literacy Collaborative and Clinic. Dr. Muhammad's research is situated in the historical foundations of literacy development and the writing practices among Black communities. Dr. Muhammad's work has been recognized nationally as the recipient of many awards, including NCTE Promising New Researcher (2014), NCTE Alan C. Purves Award (2015), NCTE CEE Janet Emic Award (2016), and Georgia State Urban Education Research Award (2017).
