WHAT IS SAM MODEL UNITED NATIONS PROGRAM (SMUN)?

SMUN program is 91做厙’s Model United Nations competitive program. It is supported by the Political Science Department and the College of Humanities and Social Sciences. The SMUN program is also an international relations course offered during the Spring semesters. The POLS 4081 Problem in Political Science: Model United Nations. This hybrid course provides an interactive environment encouraging students to study the world in the different aspects of political and international affairs while learning how to compete in the Model United Nations.

APPLICATIONS

We are thrilled to announce the launch of the Model United Nations (MUN) Student Delegation Program for the academic year 2024-2025. This prestigious opportunity allows dedicated students to immerse themselves in the world of international diplomacy and hone their leadership skills. If you are passionate about global issues, diplomacy, and eager to represent 91做厙 on the national stage, we invite you to apply for this program. Application form must be submitted electronically to Prof. Patane cfp009@shsu.edu by 11:59 p.m. on Tuesday, October 22, 2024. A total of 12 student delegates will be accepted to this year’s SMUN program. Selected applicants will be contacted shortly after the submission deadline.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Must maintain good academic standing with a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
  • Must be enrolled in POLS 4081: Problems in Political Science: Model United Nations Online Course for Spring 2025. The hybrid format includes in-class sessions scheduled for Tuesdays at 12:30 PM and online sessions on Thursdays.
  • Attend all required training sessions and meet all deadlines (Dates to be determined).
  • Serve as staff members for Model UN related events and activities during the 2024-2025 academic year, which will count towards community service hours.
  • Must be able to travel with the SMUN program for the National MUN Conference in New York City from April 13-17, 2025.
  • Attach a copy of your resume with at least one letter of recommendation from a faculty member.
  • Attend a Zoom interview if required; applicants will be contacted if an interview is necessary.
