Requesting Alternative Format Textbooks
Who can request Accessible Format Textbooks?
Accessible Format Textbooks are available for students who have completed the intake process and who have been approved by an Accommodation Counselor for this service due to a print disability (see Procedure to Request Services for information on how to apply for SSD services). Students are required to provide proof of purchase/ownership or rental of textbooks at the time Accessible Format Textbooks are provided by SSD.
How do I request my Accessible Format Textbooks?
You may submit your accessible format requests by e-mail to disability@shsu.edu, by fax to 936-294-3794, or in person at the Lee Drain Annex on the Huntsville campus. Please include the required information detailed below.
It can take two weeks or more for accessible formats to be received and prepared so order as soon as your schedule is complete and you know what books you need.

You may submit the above information to us using the Accessible Format Text Request Form or in an email, Word document, .pdf or printed list.
How do I find which textbooks I will need for my classes?
You can find your textbooks by selecting the link below which will take you to the 91做厙 – Barnes and Noble College Bookstore. You are not required to purchase from Barnes and Noble.
- Select the Term
- Select the Department (i.e. ENGL for English)
- Select the Course
- Select the Section
- Then select “Find Materials for Course”
Follow the above steps for all your courses, the result will be a list of Textbooks that are needed for your courses. It is recommended that you print this list as it contains all the information needed to request your books.
