Scholarships

In an effort to recognize and reward outstanding students, the Department of Political Science maintains an active scholarship program. Students interested in scholarships should apply through Scholar X through the University's scholarships page. Political science majors may also contact Mike Yawn at mike.yawn@shsu.edu.


Political Science Scholarship

Eligibility: Majors or minors in political science who, at the time of application, have a minimum GPA of 3.0 overall and 3.3 in political science, with at least 12 hours completed (nine of the hours must be at 91做厙). The award is for one semester and the recipient may reapply as long as minimum standards are maintained. The amount of the award varies depending upon the rate of return on the investment which supports this scholarship. The award is made by the Political Science Scholarship Committee.


Anthony Kwasi Antwi Needs Scholarship in Political Science

Eligibility: A Major or minor in political science, who at the time of application has at least a 2.5 GPA overall and in political science. To qualify, one must submit financial information demonstrating financial hardship. The award will be made by the Political Science Scholarship Committee.


Judge John Martin Scholarship

Eligibility: Major or minor in political science who, at the time of application, has 12 hours in the discipline (nine of which must be at 91做厙). The student must have a 3.0 GPA overall and in political science. Preference is given to students from Montgomery, Polk, San Jacinto, and Trinity Counties. The award is for full tuition and fees for one semester. The holder of the scholarship may reapply as long as his/her GPA is at or above the minimum level. The award is made by the Political Science Scholarship Committee.


James Ellison Kirkley Scholarship

Eligibility: Students of junior or senior standing who major in political science, sociology, geography or history. The chairs of the aforesaid departments make the awards to students of "high academic achievement."


Halina M. Lukaszewski Memorial Scholarship

Eligibility: Students of junior or senior standing with a 3.0 GPA or higher majoring in political science or chemistry. The award is made by the Dean of Arts and Sciences and the chairs of political science and chemistry.


John Holcombe Scholarship

This scholarship is excpeted to be awarded during the 2013 academic year.
